Compare the Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept vs. The LG Rumor Touch
The last few days I've had many comments on my blogs about the new Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept-A "cheap" Android phone.
I've been crazy curious, and since it is only available at Target right now, I went there tonight. They had every other phone "in stock" but the Samsung Intercept. Another Target thirty minutes away had three "in stock", but on calling them, they had already sold out.
Its popular and limited in supply.
The big question for most of my readers is "should I switch to the Samsung Intercept from the LG Rumor Touch".
This hub is my response to that strong urge all of us are feeling right now to go out and trade up or buy up.
Samsung Intercept
App Heaven-The Android Market
The Android Market looks like an App Wonderland.
For us Rumor Touch users, that is temptation that tastes pretty freak'n good.
Check out Virgin Mobile's page on their new addition here! or the User Manuel here!
The coolest features from my point of view are:
- Wi-Fi enabled!!!!!!
- Sweet text2voice features!
- App Market!
- It just looks good-snazzy!

So Which One Should I Choose?
I love the LG Rumor Touch despite itself.
Its a solid inexpensive touchscreen phone. If we keep it in perspective that we are paying $25 bucks a month for unlimited data/text/pics/vids with 300 minutes, then a $130 dollar phone that does what it does it sweet. No question.
If I was a Sprint customer, I would probably feel much more shafted. Sorry Sprint guys!
At the same time, I've always wanted an Android based phone. This is my chance to get one! The idea of "above board" apps and tweaks sounds really good!
However-there is always a "however" or a "but" and here it is:
- The phone is new.
- It has mixed reviews.
- People tend to rate it as slow and easily overwhelmed.
- Battery life is very short compared to the Rumor Touch.
- I have to remind myself that the hardware is important for the operating system (Android) to work stellar in all its glory.
My final decision on this issue, being whether I should switch phones or not, is far from being decided.
I may opt to err on the safe side by waiting a while to see how the phone plays out with its apparent hardware limitations and with Virgin Mobile's service.
Oh, by the way, used LG Rumor Touch phones seem to sell really good on Ebay for around 70-80 dollars. Not too bad.
