How to Download and Install Free Apps and Games on the LG Rumor Touch from Virgin Mobile

The newer LG Rumor Touch phones are not working with this exploit. To see if your phone is compatible, you will need to check your software version.

Check by going to Main Menu-Settings-Phone Info-Version.

The software version should be vm510pv#. If the # is 5 or 7 this should work. If it is 8 people are saying that it is no longer working.

You may have spent the last few days wishing you would have sprung for the Android phone so that you could have access to more apps and games.

The aim of this hub is to help you make the most of your LG Rumor Touch.

The info in this hub completely changed the way I viewed my LG Rumor Touch when I still used it as my primary phone last year in August, 2010.

I first discovered the APPS folder trick while visiting Howard Forums, and since the day the OP let loose his discovery, there has been no turning back for the LG Rumor Touch community.

I hope that you will be able to use the information in this hub to make all of your anger, frustration, disappointment, and curiosity set at ease.

Short and Sweet Version:

1. Create a folder in the root [where you first go to when you click on the memory card - aka, the first level or the "root" level if you will] of the microSD card called "APPS" without the quotation marks. Also make sure it's in CAPS, or else the phone will not understand it.

2. You will need both the JAR and the JAD files of a Java based app or game placed in the APPS folder (DO NOT PUT in another folder within the APPS folder-it will not work). You can get your first tester apps (I recommend using an app that is known to work before trying to create your own) from the download folder.

3. This brings up a an extra menu under MY STUFF called MEDIA CARD where it will list the .jad files you place in the APPS folder [Don't worry, the JAR files are still there, but they are not shown in this secret menu]. NOTE: This secret menu will NOT appear until there are programs placed in the folder.

4. Once you place the JAR and JAD files in the APPS folder on the microSD, you will go to MY STUFF and select MEDIA CARD. From there, you will pick the app you want to try to install and select GO and then INSTALL. Then, run it and see if it is all you hoped and dreamed it would be ;)

If the app you are trying to install will not install, then there are usually a few possible reasons for this:

• The app is simply not compatible with the LG Rumor Touch
• The app does not have a properly formed JAD file
• The program, aka, the JAR file is broken

Unless you are excellent at coding and javascript, the only one of these three possibilities that you have much control over is the JAD file. A JAD file is just a text file that acts like a map.

The phone looks at the JAD file, or the map as it were, and decides from there how to treat the program, which is the JAR file. You will notice that JAD files are very small - This is because it is simply text.

If the secret "Media Card" menu is not appearing, then double check the following:

• The folder I made in the first level of the microSD was called APPS in all capitals
• In the APPS folder, I placed at least one JAD/JAR pair. You should have just drag and dropped them in there and not created any special folders within the APPS folder.
• If both above options check out, then try restarting your phone or doing a hard reset by pulling the battery.

Another common problem almost everyone experiences happens after installing the first list of apps. When reloading your microSD with another list of apps and games to install, most people see that the secret Media Card menu did not refresh to your new list of apps.

There is a simple fix for this

• Back out of the menu and then re-enter it again to force a refresh.
• If the above method did not work, then a restart will do the trick.
